On National Indigenous People Day , we had a memorable and significant short guided walk near Columbia College , where has plenty of information about First Native People . At the beginning , the teacher showed us around Columbia college and told us the history of this area .

In the past , this area was under water and belong to aboriginal people , they relied water to live and used water in some important aspects like food , medicine and culture . However , with Europeans were arriving , this area was occupied and First Native People were expelled even they were called to leave their hometown just in two days . In 1913 , because the plan of economic development they divert the river , and build some public industrial facilities which include railway and facilities . Although the Terminal Avenue owned to Indigenous People , they have never received benefits from this area where they grew up . On the contrary, the new people who moved in later enjoyed the benefits here. Nowadays people have done lots of development here , it has changed a lot from water to a developed place ; however , people have lost a kind of natural tool and resource that is water. Water is a necessary element , what does water do is clearly show in our daily life . we cannot live without water, but people always change our nature for some selfish reasons . Because they have never realise the importance of this , so they are still doing bad behaviors, they don’t treasure our surroundings so that they may revenge of nature. They think they can change the nature easily just like they bully and oppress First Native People , but it is not this case. Through this meaningful guide , I realised we need to cherish our surroundings and protect our nature .
